Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Tue, December 16, 2008 - 12:06 PMYes, have they improved the buffer? That is one thing I disliked about the older 5D.

Tue, December 16, 2008 - 12:36 PMI'm still waiting for mine, but the boyfriend got his. It appears to be pretty tasty. -

Amazon has yet to send me an email notifying of my shipping date. Sucks ass. Big time. -

Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Sat, December 20, 2008 - 9:09 PMI cancelled my order a few weeks back.
But I have heard as of now they are back ordered until something like February.

Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Sat, December 20, 2008 - 10:52 PMI refused mine when it came last Thursday from Adorama. I got scared from all of the reports of the unresponsiveness of it. I knew I was pushing my needs with such a slow fps, but that pushed it over the line for me. I'm waiting for the next 1DMkX. -

Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Sun, December 21, 2008 - 9:24 AMI'm not sure what you mean by unresponsiveness... I haven't heard any stories of that. If you need sports-style frame rates, why not get a 1DS MkIII?
The black dot phenomenon is pretty well-documented, and I would be surprised if there wasn't a firmware update within the next few weeks. -

Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Tue, December 23, 2008 - 10:38 PMMine came today!
And darned those black dots. :(
Actually all I did was charge the battery and then had to skedaddle. So maybe tomorrow or Xmas day I'll see how it shoots.
Plus I think I want to get the 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens. It's supposed to be a terrific lens.
Gawd! To shoot full frame again, and this time with a DSLR, would be so sweet. Instantaneous photos! And instantaneous destruction of undesirable photos! So full of win! lol -

Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Wed, December 24, 2008 - 7:18 PMBabe and others, what is the buffer like? does it fill up immediately? That is thing I didn't like about the older camera. If one shoots sequentially at full resolution, I think the camera max out at 10 shots (if Irecall), then one has to wait until the busy indicator in the viewfinder to clear. Is this the case with the new camera? -
-
Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Wed, December 24, 2008 - 9:11 PMHaven't shot it yet. I don't take pictures in rapid sequence anyway. Usually 1 to 3 shots at a time, max. Always thought the 5D was more for documentary photogs, not sports photogs. But what do I know!? -
-
Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Thu, December 25, 2008 - 9:19 AMBabe I don't shoot sports but portraits and when one is dealing with non-professional models the buffer slows down the shots. It is important.
I'd shot this sword swallower and it was difficult to do. public.fotki.com/abjectpho...s-sword-s/ -

Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Thu, December 25, 2008 - 10:10 AMThe original 5D specs say: "Up to 60 JPEG or 17 RAW frames" for the 5D. The MkII specs say 14 raw or unlimited jpeg.
I never have problems with my 5D buffer filling... and I often shoot lots of stuff fairly quickly, always in raw.
-
Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Sun, December 28, 2008 - 2:22 PMWell, the specs say 3.9 shots/sec.
So far, I like shooting this camera. Esp. since it's a lot quieter than my 20D.
As to your sword swallower, why not take a shot of him from above? And maybe at a slight angle? He's got a great face. Maybe having him not play to your camera would help him to get into his sword swallower role and not be so self-conscious.

Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Mon, December 29, 2008 - 12:12 PMI have mine now. If I could wish for one thing, it's that they shipped it with the battery charged. ARGH! -
-
Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Mon, December 29, 2008 - 12:37 PMThe Mark II has a different battery than the last 5D (or other Canon dSLRs, for that matter), correct? -
-
Re: Has anyone actually received their Canon 5D Mark II yet?
Mon, December 29, 2008 - 12:59 PMYes, sadly. The LP-E6, which is now up to three flashes (75%) in the charger. Not that I'm antsy or anything.
I hear that spare batteries are currently made of unobtanium.
