Another Photokina announcement ... the first DSLR to include a movie mode

12.3 megapixel FX CMOS sensor
4.5 fps continuous shooting
Nikon EXPEED processor
ISO 200-3200, with boost to include ISO 100 and ISO 6400
11 focus points
3.0" TFT LCD, with ~920000 pixels
body constructed if of aluminum alloy and plastic
HDMI video, with PAL or NTSC

      OK, I for one think this is a gimmick. Note, I don't think it's going to be a bad camera, just that this is a gimmick. A 720p camera should record at 60p not 24p that the D90 does. What this basically means is that it records only 40% of the information of real HD video camera. Now, I'll grant you that consumer HD video cameras record at a reduced rate. In particular the first JVC 720p camera recorded at ony 30p and the HDV 1080i format is limited to only some 1400 pixels wide. However 720p at 24 frames a second is inferior to even to JVC's stunted first effort st a consumer grade camera.

        True, it is somewhat limited in features. It's also just a start. I suspect that the next camera Nikon (or Sony... or Canon...) releases will have better video, and it will continue to get better very quickly.

        One thing the D90 has that consumer video cameras lack is a huge selection of great lenses. That makes a very big difference when it comes to image quality.
